Under an Allot Graduate Scholarship, I led seminars for two years on this first year undergraduate module. This course aimed to introduce students to some of the major critical and theoretical approaches that have shaped the academic study of literature and wider culture more generally, and to guide them in the application of theory for the interpretation of texts. The theories that we covered include Mimesis, Humanism, New Criticism, Structuralism, Marxism, Historicism, Feminisms, Postcolonialism, Ecocriticism and Psychoanalysis. Students were assessed through written assignments and exams.
